Pulp & Paper

Challenges facing the Pulp & Paper Industry

The issues within the pulp and paper industry are threefold:

  • Guaranteeing continuous production utilising good labour relations, the provision of safe working conditions for employees, raw materials and production tools.
  • Improving competitiveness by optimising production and ensuring targeted improvements.
  • Complying with evermore stringent environmental regulations.

With more than 1,000 successful water and effluent treatment solutions in the pulp and paper industry, VWS is the partner of choice in all segments of this industry from pulp production through to paper production.

VWS Solutions

VWS's solutions deal in particular with the following requirements:

  • treatment of raw water, production of process water using high-rate clarification systems such as Actiflo™;
  • treatment of boiler feed water by carbonate removal, demineralisation, reverse osmosis;
  • treatment of black liquors by multi-effect evaporation;
  • removal of chloride and potassium by crystallisation;
  • Fibre recovery using DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation);
  • using micro-filtration to recycle water used as part of the production process for pulp and paper;
  • using physico-chemical, biological, aerobic, anaerobic and biofilter applications to treat effluent, and reducing the amount of sludge and filamentous bacteria by using the MBP (Minimum Biosludge Production) process;
  • using membranes to recycle wastewater in order to achieve "zero waste";
  • treating and dewatering sludge using AF Table, Screw Press.
