EOLIA™ is a practical analytical tool, using Life Cycle Analysis techniques that provides a quick, objective and site specific evaluation of alternative wastewater and sludge management technologies. It enables identification of environmentally impacting processes in existing treatment facilities, enabling energy and green house gas emission reduction.
Eolia™
Analysis of wastewater system emissions
This innovative tool helps decision-making and enables optimal choices to be made regarding a major environmental impact: the effect of the chosen treatment processes on global warming.
- Eolia™ assesses and compares the energy and GHG balance of the treatment processes being considered.
- Eolia™ identifies the levers for improvement within the system.
Life-cycle thinking
Under this approach, energy consumption and GHG emissions are accounted for over the entire life cycle of a product or service, from raw materials extraction to end of life. When applied to wastewater management, life-cycle thinking takes into account the energy and the GHG emissions of the treatment process itself as well as of the upstream and downstream processes. For example, the impacts of the production of chemicals used (such as lime) and byproduct management are taken into account in the overall environmental balance.

GHG emissions avoided
In wastewater treatment systems, the recovery of energy, organic matter and materials saves energy, fertilizer and materials, translating into GHG emissions avoided. This then counts as a credit in the system's GHG balance
