The Client
The Client's Needs
The client required the modification and enhancement of its existing Coleshill incinerator to meet the requirements of the new EC Directive 200/76/EC on the Incineration of Waste.
VWS Solution
Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies were responsible for the project management, design, engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the process, mechanical and electrical works for the entire project.
The VWS solution used new sludge dewatering centrifuges and thermal dryers to feed autothermal incineration (Pyryofluid™), which is extremely energy-efficient. Once received at the plant, the sludge is screened and then passed to blending tanks to ensure consistency. The sludge is then dewatered using centrifuges to produce a sludge cake of around 20% DS; further drying using waste heat takes the DS up to 30%. The dried cake is then pumped to the incinerators, VWS Pyrofluid™ fluidised bed, for combustion.
Combined with advanced gas cleaning techniques and extensive computerised control systems, the plant meets the strictest BIMSCHV 90 German air emission standards and Environment Agency Requirements.
