As a major contractor in the water and wastewater Industry, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (VWS) is committed to the principles of environmental sustainability. We recognise that some of our activities have the potential to make both a temporary or permanent impact on the environment and we will always endeavour to avoid, reduce or remedy any effects wherever reasonably practical.
Environmental Management
VWS considers the Environment
The main issues at stake for our activities are the best possible health protection of the people we serve, and access to the essential services of drinking water and sanitation for as many as possible.
As an example of VWS' commitment to the environment we have received a number of awards including the Environmental Project Award from the Pennon Group and the National Green Apple Award for Water Companies; both awards were for Croyde STW.

VWS Environmental Management System
VWS operates an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001:2004. This EMS is regularly audited and reviewed to ensure that it remains effective. We have an Environmental Manual and a register of the VWS Environmental Aspects together with an evaluation of their significance.
Environmental Impact Assessment
VWS conducts assessments of the environmental impact of our operations, and has determined the following to be the top three environmental impacts:
1. Packaging
2. Waste Disposal
3. Electricity Usage
VWS currently monitor energy usage, waste production and paper recycling, and as part of the Veolia Environnement group, environmental performance data are collected and plotted over time to track improvements. The most recent publication is the Sustainable Development Report from 2006, available for download.
